Six Keys to Get the Most from Your Golf Grips
1. Regularly inspect your golf grips for signs of wear or build-up.
2. Frequent play should include frequent grip cleaning. Keep a cleaning schedule
relative to the amount the golf clubs are used.
3. Splitting, worn spots or excessive dryness are all indications golf grips will need to be replaced.
4. Work with a PGA or LPGA professional to customize a grip for your swing.
5. Replace all of your grips at the same time to optimize the consistent feel of your golf clubs.
6. When selecting golf grips, expect the brand and quality to impact the durability of the golf grip.

Cleaning Golf Grips
Women’s golf grips are an essential element in women’s golf equipment
and golfoutloud.com sought advice from Jeff Robinson, PGA Instructor at
Capital Golf Center in Wake Forest, North Carolina. Jeff has over 20
years of experience assisting men, women and juniors with their golf
games. We asked Jeff for his tips on cleaning a typical golf grip.
Place warm water in a container. Be sure to use only slightly warm water; do not use hot water.
Dip the golf grip in the water, but do not soak it in the water.
The goal is to just get the grip wet enough so that cleaning powder
will adhere.
Apply a small amount of abrasive cleaner (like Ajax) to the golf
grip. Any cleaner that leaves behind a film may not be appropriate.
Using a plastic brush (never use a wire brush), scrub the grime and build-up from your golf grip.
Rinse the golf grip with water.
Towel or air dry each golf grip. Be sure the entire club is dry.
Before
After
Cleaning grips monthly (or whenever they are starting to lose the tacky
feel) will help maintain your golf grips for optimum performance. If
you have any questions about cleaning your golf grips, consult a
PGA/LPGA professional in your area.
Golf Grip Consistency
You pull out your driver and place your hands firmly around
the factory golf grip. On your third
shot, you select your pitching wedge and lightly squeeze the thick, rough grip
that you decided to try when you last visited the pro-shop. Does the consistent feel of the same golf
grips matter? We asked Jeff Robinson,
PGA Instructor at Capital Golf Center in Wake Forest, North Carolina.
“Yes, consistency in the feel of golf grips does matter. Golf is a game in which feel plays an important role in performance. Achieving a similar and comfortable grip each time you swing a club can be beneficial for your golf routine and your golf score. It is best to have each golf club gripped with the same brand and style of golf grip so you can eliminate altering the position of your hands to accommodate various golf grips. Be consistent; use the same grips for each golf club in your golf bag.”
